Reflection & Looking Ahead

kristinamariesnyde

Well that was a fast year. Looking back at the beginning of 2022 I had no idea what was in store for our family and our farm. Recovering from the tragic effects the pandemic left on our society, we pressed into our community. 2022 was the year of giving back, serving and meeting needs wherever we saw them. We went out, we gave more away than ever before but we received so much more back. Healing was happening. As a result, I met so many new friends, heard incredible stories of resilience and now I have an even greater appreciation for the community we live in than before. I’m so thankful for all of you, column readers, customers, colleagues and friends.

Now we have arrived in 2023 and I believe it is the year of growth for all of us. We have been so inspired by so many of you to teach and impart traditional skills, methods and concepts that we use every day on our farm. As a result, today we are thrilled to announce the opening of our “Back To The Roots School of Traditional Skills.” Each week all year round we will be teaching classes on everything from baking and cheese making to basic car mechanics and farming methods. If you haven’t noticed there are a lot of us here at Sunny Cove Farm and each member of our farm family has many interests and skills that we are so eager to share with all of you. The sky is the limit! If you are interested in learning something and don’t see the topic listed please let us know, if we can’t teach it chances are we can find someone that can.

We believe it is time to go back to traditional skills. The art of creating with our hands has become almost obsolete, almost gone are the days of trade shops and artisanal quality food and goods. We believe in preserving and protecting these arts along with educating all of you. It’s amazing how a small amount of knowledge on how to do a variety of things can make your life so much simpler.

Our classes will be running each Thursday at 6pm at our Farm Store (1444 Randolph Rd. Alfred NY) unless otherwise specified. You can register online at our website www.sunnycovefarm.com/registration or by calling/texting Sunny Cove Farm at 716-510-5764. No special equipment or preparation is required for each class and the cost is $10 per adult and $5 for students or children under 18. Classes run around 1 hour, there will be 45 minutes of instruction and 15 minutes of Q&A at the end of each session.

We are so excited to launch this new venture for our community. Please reach out to us with any questions or topic suggestions. Thank you all for your support through the years we cant wait to see you in the classroom!
