Meet the Family
Jerry & Dotty Jerry met Dotty while she was in school for nursing at Alfred State College. They were married on August 27th 1983 and celebrated their 33rd wedding anniversary this year. Jerry loves to talk about pasturing cows, sustainable farming, and the benefits of raw milk. He also enjoys reading and has an extensive library about these and other topics. He went to college at Alfred State and graduated with an AAS degree in Ag Business. He has been farming since 1977, the first 6 years with his father Frank Snyder and after that with his children. Dotty loves kids, cooking, baking, sewing, knitting and other crafty endeavors! She is a wiz at sewing and can whip things up in several hours that would take others days or weeks! Now that she has a granddaughter and two grandsons she is sewing many cute outfits again! She started sewing in high school and has been doing it regularly ever since. She is known in Alfred as a reliable seamstress to hem and alter pants, skirts and dresses.
Matthew the oldest son also graduated from Alfred State College with several AAS degrees (Mechanical Engineering and Business) a certificate in Entrepreneurship as well as a 1 year degree (A year in the Son) from Elim Bible Institute. He and Kelby operated M & K lawn care in Alfred for many years until Kelby decided he would rather milk cows and sold Matthew his portion of the business. Matthew now owns/operates Snow Hill Inc (www.snowhillinc.com) and offers lawn care, landscaping and snow plowing services with the help of several employees. Matthew met his wife Tara through the church campus ministry and they were married in September of 2011. Tara graduated from Alfred University with a BS degree in Fine Arts. Her focus while in college was ceramics and she hopes to have a pottery studio in the future. Tara’s other interests include being a devoted wife and mother, sewing, gardening, canning and their two young children are lots of fun!
Kelby the next oldest is in the process of taking over the farm. Along with milking cows, making hay, and doing other farm chores he enjoys engine work on diesel trucks, cutting firewood, and building Timber frames. Kelby met Kristina when she came to Alfred State to study Agronomy and then Business at Alfred State College. They were married in July 2013 and Kedric Oak Snyder was born in May of 2015. Kristina enjoys being a stay-at-home-mom, canning, crocheting, gardening, pigs, and going to farmers markets. She worked at the local bank before having Kedric and really enjoys connecting with people.
Meghan went to Alfred State College for Veterinary Technology and graduated with her AAS in 2010. After working at the local Dollar General, and Tinkertown Hardware for several years in December 2015 she decided to come back to the farm full time. She also works part time at Alfred State College as an adjunct (lab assistant) in the Vet Tech program. After helping to purchase dairy goats in 2012 she started making handcrafted soap and sells it in the on farm store. Other interests include animals (dogs, cats, cows, goats, sheep), sewing, reading, knitting/crocheting, organizing, and making cheese!
Kevin also graduated from Alfred State College with an AAS degree in Machine Tool in 2013. He has purchased several different machines and is able to machine parts on the farm. He also does computer repair and website design for several businesses including Snow Hill Inc and Sunny Cove Farm.
Isaac graduated from high school in 2013 and has very much enjoyed playing soccer in the local leagues. He also is quite gifted at building with Lego’s and has his own website (created with Kevin’s assistance) to showcase his builds (www.brickbuilt.org). Isaac milks several evenings a week and helps with haying on the farm in the summer. He just started college this fall (2016) and is attending Alfred State for Interior Design.
Joseph is in 11 th grade and has many interests! He is a co-owner of the goat herd and is currently working at the Sports Center downtown twice a week. He is building his own stock for an air rifle and has several that he shoots with regularly. He has even attended 3 air rifle field target shoots this year and has done quite well winning in his age group at the last competition.He recently purchased an online air rifle business which can be visited http://discosrus.net
John who is now in 8 th grade enjoys milking evenings with Isaac and building with Lego’s. He and Isaac have co-built some very impressive Lego creations that are also on the website (www.brickbuilt.org).
Brian the youngest is full of energy! He loves to play soccer, is taking Acro lessons and is very much enjoying Kindergarten. He also loves tractors, trucks, going four wheeling with Kevin, and riding his bike!!
