Sunny Cove Farm Grass Fed Beef

While we are caring for all the ladies that produce the milk we also keep all their babies and raise them up to either work alongside their mothers or provide delicious and satisfying beef to nourish your growing families!
Sunny Cove Farm grass fed beef is raised organically on rotationally grazed pasture in Alfred. The winter diet consists of grass baleage and dry hay. All animals are raised certified organic and the beef is cut, wrapped, and frozen at Leona Meat Plant in Troy, PA. Leona Meat plant is a U.S.D.A. inspected processor, and is certified organic by NOFA-NY Certified Organic LLC. Most cuts are readily available at the farm store Tuesday and Friday 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at 1444 Randolph Road Alfred or by appointment at 607-587-9282.

Benefits of Grass-fed, Grass-Finished Beef

Cows are ruminant animals and were not created to process starches like corn. But after World War II cattle and other livestock became the answer to disposing of the excess grain inventory brought about by mechanization. If you combine the cattle's inability to fully digest corn- in most cases GMO corn - with the resulting potential for diarrhea, bloat or liver disease from that inability and then add antibiotics, hormones and the stress of CAFOS, one can easily see why people are hungry for the exquisite taste and health benefits of beef as nature intended it to be:grass-fed, grass-finished.

In 2010, the Stockman Grass Farmer produced a brochure entitled "Grass-fed, The informed Choice." This eight-page manifesto shares perspectives from investigative reporter, author and wild food specialist Jo Robinson and Tilak Dhiman, Ph.D., considered a world authority on conjugated linoleic acid (CLA). Superior taste is one sales point, but there are powerful nutritional benefits to grass- fed, grass-finished beef. The list below is more fully expounded in the Stockman brochure. Once you read it, it's easy to understand why Dr. Walker tells his patients to eat a hamburger instead of taking a fish oil pill.

Grass-fed, grass-finished beef nutritional benefits include:

  • -500 percent more conjugated linoleic acid(CLA). This is an essential fatty acid that has indications of being anti-carcinogenic, anti-diabetic and anti-atherosclerosis(heart disease.)
  • -Increased immunity, increased bone density, suppression of the growth of cancer cells
  • -400 percent more vitamin A - A cancer fighter, necessary for bone developement and prevention of skin disorders.
  • -300 percent more vitamin E - A potent antioxidant that lowers the risk of heart disease and cancer.
  • -75 percent more omega-3. Another potent anti-cancer agent, essential for brain function. It reduces blood pressure and lowers heart attack risk.
  • -78 percent more beta-carotene. Another antioxidant that can help lower the risk of cataracts and macular degeneration.
